School of Hard Knocks

To support children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs in our Secondary schools to access SOHK's:

  • Classroom based personal development

  • On the pitch personal development

  • 1:1 mentoring

 

 

 

 

 

DSPL2 is funding School of Hard Knocks to provide support in two Stevenage secondary schools throughout 2023-2024. 

In 2022-2023, DSPL2 funded SOHKs support in 4 out of 6 of our secondary schools. 109 young people were supported and feedback from teachers showed increased engagement in lessons, reduced exclusions and improved attendance for the young people involved in the programme.

The SOHK Schools Programme consists of a unique combination of rugby-based sessions, specialist mentoring and indoor group discussion. Combined with SOHK's psychology, as well as the stability and consistency of the relationships that our staff build with the young people, we enable participants to make positive changes to their behaviours, attitudes and mindset and give them the ability to recognise their personal growth.
